Embark on a journey through the bustling streets and vibrant venues of Victoria’s hospitality landscape, where the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) serves as both a legal obligation and a testament to professionalism and safety. Let’s dive into the essential information outlined on the Victorian Government’s RSA webpage, shedding light on the pathway to compliance and excellence in the hospitality industry.
In Victoria, RSA training is a mandatory requirement for individuals involved in selling, offering, or serving alcohol under various liquor licences, including general, on-premises, late night, and packaged liquor licenses. Additionally, RSA training may be compulsory in other scenarios where special conditions are attached to the liquor licence, emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring responsible alcohol service across the board.
The approved RSA course in Victoria is the nationally accredited “Provide responsible service of alcohol” (SITHFAB021) course, delivered by registered training organisations (RTOs) approved by Liquor Control Victoria (LCV). While training in the previous version, SITHFAB002, is still valid until January 1, 2024, individuals are encouraged to transition to the updated SITHFAB021 course to stay aligned with current regulations and best practices.
Completion of RSA training is a timely process, with individuals required to finish their training within one month from the date of their first liquor supply. Even those under the age of 18 can undertake RSA training, although they must wait until they reach the legal drinking age of 18 before serving alcohol.
Recognising the importance of maintaining the integrity of RSA training, LCV-approved training organisations are easily identifiable through the “Liquor Control Victoria Approved RSA Provider” wordmark, providing assurance to individuals seeking quality training experiences.
For those holding RSA certification from another state or territory, Victoria offers a bridging course to obtain a Victorian RSA certificate, facilitating employment within Victorian venues. This bridging course, available free of charge, ensures seamless transition and compliance with Victorian liquor laws.
An RSA Melbourne & Victoria certificate is valid for 3 years. After this period, you’ll need to update your certification by completing an RSA refresher course. This is mandatory for all licensees and staff involved in selling, offering, or serving liquor under general, on-premises, packaged liquor, and late-night licenses. Real Stories from our
Previous Students
"I am extremely satisfied with the courses I’ve completed and will absolutely recommend your services to others. If you're looking for a top-tier training provider, I can't recommend CFT enough!"
"Recently, I needed to complete a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course, and CFT International was recommended by a friend.
After doing some research, I discovered that CFT is registered with the Australian Skills Quality Authority, which gave me confidence to proceed—and I'm so glad I did!
My experience with CFT has been outstanding! In fact, I was so impressed that I returned to their site to complete another certificate course.
Each course was well-structured, professional, and incredibly relevant. The presentation wasn’t just dry theory; it was brought to life with workplace scenarios through videos and photos.
This made it feel like I was right there in the classroom or workplace, which really helped drive the points home. Watching these videos gave me a clear understanding of what’s expected in various real-world situations.
One feature I particularly appreciated was that I couldn’t progress to the next level unless I fully understood the current one. This allowed me to take thorough notes and revisit areas I wasn’t completely confident in before moving on to the final assessments. It made the learning experience much more comprehensive and ensured I retained the information.
On top of that, their customer service is top-notch. I had to call once to clarify a point, and the help I received was excellent—special thanks to Carmel for her patience and guidance.
Thank you, CFT!"
